🌍 Why I Started Mystery Holidays

 

The idea for Mystery Holidays came from my own experience booking a so-called “mystery break” with a major travel provider. I loved the concept — a surprise trip, a bit of excitement, and the chance to explore somewhere new without the hassle of planning.

But what I got was far from a good deal.

After adding up what we spent on that “mystery holiday” versus what I could have booked myself, I realised we’d overpaid by a lot. The trip we were offered was to Dublin, departing from a London airport, even though we live in the Midlands. To fly from a closer airport, we had to pay extra — and the flights themselves were terrible, leaving barely enough time to enjoy the destination.

In the end, we even changed the destination just to get a decent amount of time away. The biggest let-down? There was no real mystery at all — we knew where we were going months in advance.

What started as a £99-per-person deal ended up costing £230 each — and when I checked the same flights and accommodation myself, I could have booked it all for under £150 total for two people.

That’s when I decided to do things differently.

I created Mystery Holidays to give people the true mystery experience they’re promised — one that’s fair, transparent, and actually good value. With a simple, fixed £50 planning fee, you get a personally curated, surprise-filled adventure that gives you the mystery you pay for, without hidden costs or inflated pricing.
